Opmerkingen   : - De omgeving van de Zijpe is gekopieerd van de kaarten van:
                  > Adriaen Anthonisz (1572) en
                  > Joost Janz. Beeldsnijder (1575)
                - De naam 'Zypland' ook op kaart van Willem Jansz. Blaeu uit 1604 (zie Blonk 2000, p 176). 
                - Rechtsboven is nog net een gedeelte van Alkmaar te zien. 
                - Mogelijk een 'proefkaart' van de Doetecomiuskaart van de Zijpe van 1600??

This is a map of the Zijpe, published by Cornelis Claesz before 1600. The polder's
surroundings are copied from maps by Adriaen Anthonisz (1572) and Joost Jansz
Beeldsnijder (1575).
Next to the large and more detailed map, Cornelis Claesz also published a smaller map of
the Zijpe. This publication apparently was intended to make interested parties aware of the
impending definitive diking of the Zijpe. The Zijpe (HET ZYP LAND) shows the main canals
running in the length of the polder and four crossroads with their names. There is no
further indication of buildings or a division into lots. The reclaimed area of the Zijpe is
placed in an old topographical setting; to the east and south, it is a copy of the
multi-sheet map made by Joost Jansz Beeldsnijder (1575) (ill. 15,97). Along the coast of
the North Sea, the topographical situation is shown as it appeal's on the map that
Adriaen Anthonisz made in 1572 (ill. 15.94).
A compass rose has been drawn in the Wieringer Waard (Den Wieringher Waert). In the upper
left corner of the map we see a large coat of arms of the county of Holland.
In the lower right corner, a cartouche contains the same chronogram (printed on a slip
of paper and pasted in place) that we have already encountered in the earlier map of the
Zijpe. Embedded in this inscription are the year of the reclamation, 1597, and the name of
the mapmaker, Langedijk. The engraving bears witness to the hand of Baptista van Doetecum,
even though his name does not appear on die map.
